This course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to apply risk management processes in the mining, drilling and civil infrastructure industry. This unit applies to individuals who contribute to applying risk management processes as part of their responsibilities. This could be an employer, line manager, supervisor, safety representative or employee.  Furthermore, it also applies to those who carry out or assist in carrying out risk assessments in the workplace.

Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this unit can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with the relevant body before applying the unit.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 8 Hours

Participants must have the physical capacity to demonstrate conducting risk management for a workplace area which safely meets required outcomes.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

This certificate does not require renewal

Performance tasks: 

  • Plan and prepare for risk management in the workplace
  • Conduct an inspection of the work area to identify hazards
  • Assess hazards and identify unacceptable risk
  • Identify and recommend controls
  • Contribute to implementing the controls

Documentation – Completion of a site-based Risk Management Form and a Risk Control Plan for each Performance task.

Theory assessment - A written exam consisting of multiple-choice questions and short answer questions to be completed at the end of the training session.
